Thousands lined Lakewood Main Street to honor Veterans
By Keith Pandeloglou
Director of LWRCAC
In taking lead of this parade for the first time, I'll have to admit. I didn't know what to expect. Luckily for me, we have a strong and passionate committee made up of community leaders, our beneficiaries, board members, and valued volunteers to lend a hand. Most people don't look into the logistics of organizing 40+ sponsors, 750+ parade participants, and dozens of veterans. I was able to have a first hand look at what the finished product looked like, as I was able to ride down Main Street on the LWR Community Activities float.
To be able to shake the hand of our two Grand Marshals, Frank Royer and Hank Lackey, and thank them for their service, is a moment I won't forget soon. To think of the sacrifices these men and women made for their country, putting on a parade to honor them is the least we can do.
Thank you George Johnston, Ken Green, Graham Ellis, Reggie Davis, Ron Babcock, Roland Kelly, Don Courtney, Bobby Fearon, CJ Bannister, Chuck Daughtrey, Daniel Powers, Ernie Freedman, Denny King, Lee Waters, Richard Donoghue, Melissa Sharp, David M Sharp Sr, and Gus Andreone. Thank you to all of our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, and thank you to those who have served and currently serve.
Days like Sunday remind me of the power of community, specifically the power of Lakewood Ranch. The community i'm proud to call my home.
